CTL Supporting Our Community: Trauma-Informed Resources for Faculty

In times of difficulty, having tools and practices that support ourselves and our students can make a meaningful difference. The CTL Team has gathered the following research-based resources to offer guidance and support. These materials are not substitutes for professional care (which we encourage you to seek as needed). But we hope they may be helpful as you navigate this time.

The Sailboat Metaphor

The Sailboat Metaphor is a gentle framework for understanding resilience, including what anchors us, what moves us forward, and what threatens to pull us off course.

Window of Tolerance Worksheet

This is a tool for recognizing when we or our students are feeling grounded, overwhelmed, or shut down; and it also lists strategies for returning to balance and presence.

Safety and Danger

An overview of how our nervous system responds to perceived threats, and how to cultivate a sense of safety for ourselves and in our classrooms.

Challenging Catastrophic Thinking

This worksheet lists practical strategies for interrupting worst-case-scenario spirals, including journaling prompts, breathing techniques, and cognitive reframing.

Mindfulness Practices

A collection of brief and accessible practices, grounding exercises, breathwork and recorded contemplative sessions to support calm and self-regulation.

A sample of recorded meditations from this resource:

Holding Space Together: Resources for Trauma Informed Practices, February 2026.

This resource will help you understand trauma’s impact on ourselves, on our students and campus community.

If you have questions or need additional support, please reach out to the CTL or other campus support services.
