Reading Assignments & Technology 🗓

As AI capabilities improve, reading-as-a-hobby is decreasing, and students express their exhaustion of discussion boards, what is the best way to structure reading & response assignments? In this session, the CTL’s Educational Technologist will share suggestions and tools for assigning readings: Annotated document assignments in Canvas, Perusall for social reading, collaborative concept diagrams, and translation services like Kaltura.

While the use of technology is no replacement for reading skills, the technologies available to us and our students can support reading pedagogy. By using specific tools and intentionally aligning them with student learning outcomes, we intend to design reading assignments where technology supports student learning and is not used to surveil student behavior.

Eligible part-time faculty (SP26) qualify for a $75 stipend for participating in this hour-long demo.
