We are looking to bring together an interdisciplinary group of faculty who want to incorporate AI into their classes while prioritizing digital literacy. While many AI digital literacy lessons already exist, navigating and translating them for our art and design context remains a challenge. Let’s work collectively to learn from available materials, adapt the most promising lessons, and test implementation within the Pratt context. Each member will commit to implementing at least one AI literacy lesson into their Fall 2024 courses.
The main goals of this mini-FLC are:
- Build a collective vocabulary and foundational understanding of AI + digital literacy
- Explore & test existing lessons from various resources
- Reflect, and synthesize assignment descriptions and findings into a shareable resource for the Pratt community
Participants should have some personal familiarity with GenAI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, MidJourney, etc.), and little/no experience teaching digital literacy. We will be working through existing resources asynchronously, and meeting synchronously to review and test out what we’ve learned. Estimated time for participation is 7-8 hours of asynchronous work, in addition to the meeting dates listed below.
Timeline:
- April 29: Interest forms due
- May 6: Group of participants confirmed, kick-off information shared via email
- May 22, 1 – 2:30 pm: Meeting #1 – connecting, reviewing what we’ve learned so far
- May 29, 12 – 1:30 pm: Meeting #2 – potential guest speaker session
- June 12, 12 – 1:30 pm: Meeting #3 – roleplaying AI literacy lessons
- August 21, 12 – 1:30 pm: Meeting #4 – pre-semester, reviewing plans for implementation
- Implement lesson during Fall 2024
- November 20, 12:00 – 1:30 pm: Meeting #5 – reflection

Eligible full and part time faculty receive a $750 stipend for their participation in this mini-FLC. This is a small group with limited capacity!
Through hands-on exploration of digital literacy and AI, we hope this learning community empowers faculty to build skills and resources to further AI literacy at Pratt.
