The existence of generative AI has led many of us to wonder how we should respond pedagogically. Though we might come to very different responses, we mostly share the perspective that it’s probably not enough to keep doing things as we did in the pre-AI era.
This FLC is for educators across Pratt schools who want to experiment with their pedagogy in response to the presence of AI. This small group of interested faculty will continue and deepen the work many of us have already been doing, putting it into relational and reflective practices. The FLC will also be guided by the findings I developed in the first half of my CTL fellowship. Drawing from the conceptual framework I developed in that research as a guide, we will each choose a way to experiment with new approaches in our classes. Through a series of guided choices in terms of both intention and type of intervention, we will develop new prompts, processes, policies, assignments, rubrics, or other teaching tools in a collaborative environment, and reflect on the outcomes of these experiments over the course of the Fall semester.
Who is this FLC for?
Faculty who use a writing practice in their classrooms are especially encouraged to apply for the FLC, but we would also love to have diverse pedagogical perspectives from across the schools at Pratt. Anyone who would like to experiment with adjusting their approaches because of the presence of AI is encouraged to apply.
This FLC will meet on Thursdays at 12pm, first on May 21st, and then once a month for a total of four times in the Fall semester. [Please note: If you’re not available during these times, we encourage to apply to other FLCs in the future.]

An important aspect of engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) is a public sharing of the scholarship members engaged in over their time together. FLC members will be invited to participate in a Pratt-wide panel discussion on the topic of AI and their work in this FLC hosted by the CTL during the fall semester. FLC participants will have opportunities to present their preliminary work as well as to submit their final work to the CTL open-access journal, iteratio.
Eligible part-time faculty will receive a compensation of $1000 (in 2 installments).
