Part 1: September 19, 12–1:30pm
In Part 1, participants will reflect on their definitions of academic success, articulate how they design and teach their courses to support student learning, and consider how they can effectively identify and present evidence of pedagogical excellence.
Part 2: September 26, 12–1:30pm
In Part 2, participants will spend some time drafting their statements of teaching philosophy—drawing on their reflective thinking and writing from the first session—as well as discussing what makes an effective statement of teaching philosophy and providing feedback to one another. We will conclude by discussing next steps for writing.
Please bring something to write with (laptop, tablet, paper/pen, whatever you prefer) to both sessions. We recommend that, prior to the sessions, you collect some materials that you might draw inspiration from (e.g., syllabi/assignments/activities that you are particularly proud of, encouraging or even challenging student feedback, your own work from your time as a student, etc.).
All in-person events will take place at the CTL, Pratt Library, 2nd Floor (East Reading Room) unless otherwise noted.
Eligible part-time faculty who attend both sessions will qualify for a $150 stipend.
